IDSAI Young Scientist Award (IDSAI YSA)
Award Overview
The IDSAI Young Scientist Award (IDSAI YSA) recognizes outstanding early-career researchers who have made original and important contributions to data science, artificial intelligence, or related interdisciplinary fields, and who show strong potential for future leadership.
Eligibility
Candidates should normally meet the following conditions at the nomination deadline:
. Be 40 years of age or younger, or normally be within 15 years of receiving a PhD or equivalent terminal degree.
. Have a strong record of original research, innovation, technological development, or impactful application.
. Demonstrate clear individual contributions and research independence.
. Show strong potential for future scientific, technological, professional, or societal impact and leadership.
Documented career interruptions or non-linear career paths may be taken into account by the Selection Committee.
Nomination Procedure
Candidates should normally be nominated by established researchers, academic or research institutions, professional societies, industry leaders, or other qualified members of the international community. The nomination should clearly explain the candidate’s individual contributions, significance, emerging impact, and future potential.
Required Nomination Materials
A complete nomination should include:
. Curriculum Vitae: an up-to-date CV including education, appointments, honors, publications, research activities, and professional service.
. Nomination Statement: a concise statement describing the candidate’s key achievements, originality, independence, impact, and future potential.
. Representative Publications or Works: a selected list of important publications, algorithms, datasets, software, patents, technologies, projects, or other outputs, with a brief indication of the candidate’s contribution where appropriate.
. Letters of Recommendation: at least three letters from recognized experts who can independently assess the candidate’s achievements and potential.
IDSAI may request additional information where necessary.
Selection Criteria
Candidates will be assessed with particular consideration given to:
. originality and quality of the candidate’s work;
. significance of the candidate’s individual contributions;
. demonstrated or emerging scientific, technological, industrial, or societal impact;
. research independence and international visibility; and
. potential to become a future leader in data science and artificial intelligence.
Assessment will take account of career stage and opportunity, and will emphasize the quality and significance of contributions rather than relying only on quantitative indicators.
Selection Process
. Complete nominations will undergo an administrative eligibility review.
. Eligible candidates will be evaluated by an independent IDSAI Young Scientist Award Selection Committee using the published criteria.
. The Committee may request additional information or external assessment where needed. Members must disclose conflicts of interest and recuse themselves when appropriate.
Committee deliberations are confidential and decisions are final. The Award is conferred solely on merit and need not be awarded every year.
Award Recognition
The recipient may receive:
. an official IDSAI Young Scientist Award certificate and commemorative trophy;
. formal recognition at an IDSAI conference, congress, ceremony, or other designated academic event;
. an invitation to deliver an Award Lecture or Invited Presentation; and
. a dedicated profile through appropriate IDSAI communication channels.
Nomination Deadline
September 30 of each year, unless otherwise announced by IDSAI.
Announcement
The recipient will normally be announced on or before November 30 of the corresponding award year.
